I used this www.unlock-sony.com with success. had the code after about 3 days, no need of using usb cables or to download funny programs.
the only thing was they send me 4 codes; CCK - NCK - NSCK & SPCK
but they forgot to tell me which of the 4 codes to use to unlock the x10i. but i found that answer (NCK code) on the forum.xda-developers.com site.
after inserting the non supported network SIM card and typing in the NCK code and all was fine. a well spend £28
